Restoration of the Wychnor lock side crane came about following a conversation with the British Waterways river section inspector who was living in the lock cottage at that time. The crane which is sited next to the small transhipment shed was looking in a very poor state and after finding out that Waterways owned it we asked if we could repaint it.

He said that if we would help him, BWB would provide the paint for this. A weekends work party was arranged with him and this was repainted along with the bridge iron work, tow rope guards and roller. The roller is now missing but if you look the iron guards are still there.
